Some do because the idea is simply a bad one. Which means, there wasn’t a market, or penetrating a market had unseen barriers at the moment of starting said business. in both cases a lack of research of wishful thinking was involved.
But even if you do everything by the book to test your idea and you get a green light to start your business, the most probable outcome sadly, its that it will fail.
In an era of almost religious pursuit of the being your own boss, and the glamour of making it on yourself. Few speak about the reality of going into a business.
So, I will.
It is so hard to keep a business going that you really need to be passionate about it. Now that cliché, I know. But the truth of that sentence scape many people. Just like most wise simple truth in life, it has in it, a mountain range of real pain.
The hard part, aside from the time, the money, and the uncertainty that comes with a business. you need to do things you might hate. Like accounting, bookkeeping, cashflow management, dealing with permits and regulation, taxes, dealing with other people: employee and customers. And on top of that, at least when you are not making money, with the scorn of everybody that depends on you.
The most tragic thing about this scenario. Is that you should seek help, but true help cost money. Services from other people. Which you might hate. Again, you need to love you business to do the thing you hate doing.
Usually, the founder or founder very fast they find themselves in the critical situation of chasing sales for survival. At the en of the day no matter what your accounting, financial, etc might say. The one reality that hit you hard is your bank’s balance account. Or worst if your business carries inventory, the of it, consume by a negative cashflow.
The thing is that nobody says to people, that having passion for a business has never to be confused with having delusional faith. Sadly again, most people get very fast to the point of having delusional faith. Most because they dug themselves so deep a whole, that it doesn’t matter anymore when you stop. Don’t get wrong life will stop you, that is your financial (running out money).
The only way of addressing that situation before it destroys you, is having financial information, and the guts to look at them and make decisions. If your idea isn’t a bad one, you might have time to save the day or at least your house.
To the few that make it. And believe me, very few make it. a good business, is like touching the hand of God. I won’t lie about that. If you manage to get there, you will a life that’s a dream for most. Then again, doesn’t matter how good a business is, it’s always trying to commit suicide, so never really stop working. No holidays, no vacation, very little true family time.
Be wise, know yourself and seek advice early on. If your honest answered is that it’s not for you. Find a good job and be happy. Peace, at the end of the day should be goal.
