Is the American Dream Dead? I Asked Around. Here’s What I Found.

I’ve spoken with fellow entrepreneurs and posed the question:

Is the American Dream dead?

The answers? Overwhelmingly negative.

Most people said: Yes. It’s dead.

So I pressed further:

“What does the American Dream even mean to you?”

Here’s a condensed summary of the top responses:

• Become a multi-millionaire

• Become a millionaire

• Own a house, a car, live debt-free, retire with dignity, and pay for your kids’ college

The tragedy?

Most Americans will never achieve any of those.

The American Dream Was a Sales Pitch

The version sold by media, banks, politicians — it’s unattainable for most.

And yet… I don’t believe it’s completely dead.

Why?

Because becoming wealthy is possible in America — if:

• You don’t get sick

• No one you love does

• You stay disciplined

• You keep your lifestyle in check

But that’s a lot of “ifs.”

So the next question I always hear is:

“How the hell am I supposed to get rich in a system that’s rigged?”

Here’s the Truth

America still offers one of the greatest wealth-building machines ever invented:

The stock market.

Through it, anyone can own:

• A piece of corporate America

• Entire industries

• Even the whole market

So why are most people still broke?

Because… the system is rigged.

Just not in the way most think.

The Real Problem?

Education. Or the lack of it.

Not conspiracy. Not some evil billionaire in a volcano.

Just pure, government-level incompetence — especially in financial education.

No one teaches you:

• How to handle money

• How investing works

• How to read a basic balance sheet

Instead, the wealthy teach it to their kids.

The poor? They’re told to just “work hard” and “believe in yourself.”

That’s not empowerment — that’s a trap.

Capitalism Isn’t the Problem — Silence Is

The current poverty cycle in America isn’t about capitalism.

It’s about how we’ve outsourced financial education to families — and ignored those whose families don’t know about it.

The result?

A permanent underclass of people who could’ve been free — if someone had just explained how money works.

Final Thought

It’s never too late to learn.

• Pick up a book

• Watch a video

• Talk to someone who knows

• Most of all — act

Financial literacy is the first wealth.

It’s also the best legacy you’ll ever leave your children.
